LAIN calls on members to submit bids for retrofit funding

Almost £230m of government funding is up for grabs for public sector organisations wishing to accelerate their estate decarbonisation plans.

This is great news for LAIN (London Anchor Institutions’ Network) members that have already identified buildings to decarbonise or retrofit with greener technologies. It is estimated that London’s buildings account for two thirds of the city’s carbon emissions.  Over 70+ buildings across London have been earmarked by members to undergo carbon-saving transformations.

Therefore, LAIN is strongly encouraging anchor organisations to check their eligibility and prepare bids for submission for when the application portal opens on 10 October. Applications need to be submitted very quickly as the scheme is “first come, first served”, with funding often allocated within minutes.

The money is available as part of phase 3 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme which aims to reduce carbon emissions from public sector buildings by 75% by 2037.

Catherine Barber, Chair of LAIN’s Green New Deal Working Group, said: “I’m urging LAIN members to use the time before the application portal opens to prepare their bids. The funding is an excellent resource for organisations to meet their net zero ambitions.”

For more information on how to make applications, members should visit: Phase 3c Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
