Case Study: East London Careers Hub
Local London, is a partnership of 9 boroughs in North and South East London, and receives a grant to deliver the Careers Hub in East London (Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Bromley, Enfield, Greenwich, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest) through to August 2023. The team is small but it works as a conduit between employers, local stakeholders, schools and colleges. Currently the team has 180 schools within their Hub, with a target to engage 209 schools, which includes Further Education Colleges, Alternative Provision, and Special Schools, across the specified boroughs.
Tracy Eve, the Strategic Hub Lead, says:
“the key is providing educational activities that raise students’ aspirations”.
The recent Skills and Post 16 Education Act requires establishments to enhance the provision of their learning pathway for young people, across their secondary and post 16 education. Careers Hubs, such as this, will work collaboratively with all the stakeholders including training providers, colleges, and universities to support schools in achieving the new requirements.
The supportive and open relationships the Hub has built with local employers are the building blocks to a meaningful and impactful programme. The Hub aims to embed the skills and experience of local employers into mainstream careers education in order that young people understand their future world of work.
